I have a love for theatricality;
art that captures a well-crafted truth;
and colorful images that evoke the contrast and dynamics of a black and white photography in vibrant color.
With a background in professional world class production, I thrive at capturing moments that astound an audience in the highest caliber of production environments.
I am a San Francisco Bay Area based photographer, designer, and production technician specializing in all aspects of theatrical lighting, production photography, and portraiture.
While growing up in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan a career in professional theatre was never really a thought and New York seemed like such a far-off place. Fast-forward a few decades, and after almost 10 years touring the world with 8 different productions, I now find myself outside of Albany, NY. I have fostered a unique blend of photographic knowledge and theatrical lighting design that allows me to truly understand the nuances present on the theatrical stage. My theatrical background sets me apart from my peers and colleagues in the photographic industry, and allows me to better navigate the technical environment of the rehearsal process.
I have had the distinct privilege of photographing some excellent touring Broadway productions; with cast and creative teams that are some of the biggest talents in the industry. Productions photographed include The Wizard of Oz, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat starring Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young, and the first national tour of the TONY™ award winning musical, MEMPHIS starring Bryan Fenkart and Felicia Boswell. Imagery of these productions and more are located in the Production Photography gallery below.
I have had the honor of working with some incredibly talented people over the last decade, and was able to spend some time capturing images of them fully immersed in their characters. Imagery of the First National Tour of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, photographed for the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas; photographs of the First National Tour of MEMPHIS created for use on their digital properties; and portraiture of the cast of SHREK the Musical, captured for the cast members themselves are highlights. Additional Imagery located in the Character Portraiture gallery below.
I have a love for art and photography that captures a well-crafted truth; and for colorful images that evoke the contrast and dynamics of a black and white photograph in bright and vibrant color. With a background in professional world class production, I thrive at capturing moments that astound an audience in the highest caliber of production environments. I am an Upstate, New York based photographer specializing in location portraiture, theatrical portraiture, and production photography. I began my photographic career while on tour with Broadway shows and cannot wait to see where it goes next.
Lighting Design, both collegiate and professional, was the focus of my time in East Lansing, Michigan while studying theatrical design and production at Michigan State University. I consider myself fortunate to have this theatrical education to draw photographic inspiration from. Lighting a dancer on a stage has influenced how my photography is lit; frequently using strobe or flash to illuminate the subject in ways not even visible to the eye of the dancer until after the image is created.
I began my career in professional entertainment while studying at Michigan State University as a camera operator at the Breslin Student Events Center. Since then, I have worked in countless arenas and theatres around the globe and have been privileged to add quite a few concert performances to my photographic portfolio. I have found that my knowledge of lighting and understanding of the Lighting Director's mentality continuously helps me to ask the correct questions and capture the perfect moments.
I find it most rewarding to collaborate with other artists on an image. This is taken to the extreme with a musician solely because they are unable to include so much of their artistry directly into the visuals of a still image. I have been extremely fortunate to work with such incredible musicians on so many projects, and would love to collaborate with more artists on how best to showcase their artistry in an entirely new light.
